Vines, Buchanan recognized by HCC

Three local officials were recognized at the 50th Annual Banquet of the High Country Council of Governments held at Appalachian State University in Boone Oct. 10.

Mayor Charles Vines of Bakersville was recognized by the Council as the 2025 Outstanding Executive Board Member. He was recognized for his service and efforts in promoting cooperation among local governments in the region and the state. He has served on the HCCOG Executive Board for nearly 34 years.

Spruce Pine Mayor Pro Tem Rocky Buchanan was recognized as the 2025 Outstanding Rural Transportation Advisory Committee member. He was recognized for his contribution to northwestern North Carolina as a whole and his knowledge of the region‘s transportation needs and issues.

Mitchell County Manager Allen Cook was named the 2025 Outstanding Local Government Manager in the High Country.
