Gloria Young Gray Yuhn, age 72 of Bakersville passed away at Hospice, Solice Care Partners of Asheville on April 21, 2016. Graduate of Marion schools. She attended Bakersville Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Delbert (Del) Yuhn of 15 years. Son Mark Gray (Tammy) of Marion; sister, Brenda Dixon of Winston-Salem. 

Funeral services were April 24, 2016 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Richard Anderson of McDowell Hospice officiating.   

Michael Joe Andrews, 72, of 159 Rabbit Hop Road, Spruce Pine, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016. His work years included shift supervisor at Buckeye Steel Castings from 1961-1973; sales manager for Metropolitan Life 1973-1976; and UPS package car driver from 1976-1991. He was a member of the Elks No. 2522, Inverness, Florida, serving two years as Chaplain, seven years as veterans affairs chairman and one year as district V.A. Chairman.

MORGANTON — Mrs. Amanda Melissa Roberts Buchanan, 87, of Morganton, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at College Pines Health and Rehabilitation, following a period of declining health.

A funeral service was at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Morganton First Church of God with the Rev. Leonard Lindsey and the Rev. Jon McDivitt officiated.

Interment followed at Burke Memorial Park.

BAKERSVILLE — Robert William “Bobby” Huskins, 89, of the Lily Branch Community, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016. 

He was the son of the late Charles and Creanie Gouge Huskins. 

Bobby was a member of the Lily Branch Baptist Church, the National Rifle Association and the American Chestnut Association. He also retired from the engineering department of DuPont and was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in World War II as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, and was also a demolition specialist.

BURNSVILLE — Jayne “Granny” Lewis Phillips, 81, of Phillips Road, Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord April 22, 2016. She was a native of Mitchell County and a daughter of the late Jess and Lovinah Barnett Lewis.

BAKERSVILLE — LeElla Greene Cooke, 83 of Staggerweed Road, Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord April 22, 2016. 

She was a native of Mitchell County and a  daughter of the late Ralph and Modine Hughes Greene. She was retired from the Toe River Health District. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and former member of Roan Mountain Chapter 29 Order of The Eastern Star.

BAKERSVILLE — Reba Hoyle Willis, 82, of Jarrett Road, of Bakersville in the Ledger community, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 21, 2016, at her home.

The funeral service honoring the life of Reba Willis was 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. 

The Rev. Chris Rathbone and the Rev. William Ellis officiated. 

A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 3 p.m. until time of service Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the funeral home chapel. Interment was in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

SPRUCE PINE — Howard “Tiny” Ingram, 35, of Gouges Creek Road, Spruce Pine, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at his residence.

A memorial service was 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the Pine Grove Methodist Church. The Rev. Ken Anderson officiated.

NEBO – Margaret Johnson Ledford, age 82, of Nebo, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at The McDowell Hospital. 

A funeral service was held Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. 

BAKERSVILLE – Betty A. Bryant, 86, of George McKinney Road, Bakersville, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 7, 2016. She was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina, and a daughter of the late Charlie K. and Pearl Buchanan Ayers. 

She was retired from Mitchell County Schools with 32 years in food service. She was a member of and attended McKinney Cove Baptist Church, where she was a member of Women’s Missionary Union and was also a member of Bakersville Eastern Star chapter 29.

SPRUCE PINE – Bonnie Lou Hensley, 93, of Dula Road, passed awayFriday, April 8, 2016, at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine.

Born June 9, 1922, in Yancey County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John Milt and Dora Harrison Shuford. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, B.E. Hensley, who passed away in 2013; her brothers, Martin, who died at birth, Lewis Shuford and wife, Elsie, Fred Shuford and wife, Velma; her sisters, Essie Murphy and husband, Dewey, and Annie Autrey and husband, Raymond.

BAKERSVILLE – Gladys Buchanan Duncan, 94, of Duncan Drive, Bakersville, died Monday, April 4, 2016, at Blue Ridge Regional hospital in Spruce Pine.

A funeral service was Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Bear Creek Baptist Church.

BAKERSVILLE - Sabra “Ann” McKinney Buchanan, 67, of the McKinney Cove Community, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, in the Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late James and Ruth Gouge McKinney and a member of the McKinney Cove Baptist Church.

GREEN MOUNTAIN - David Renfro, age 58, of Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly Monday, April 11, 2016 at his home. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of Elouise P. Renfro. of Brummitts Creek. and the late Bernie Renfro, who passed away in 2015. 

He was employed with CSX Railroad since 1977. David attended Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church and loved talking and laughing with his friends, working on his farm, playing with his special dogs, but mostly, loved his Lord and his family. 

BURNSVILLE - Walt Peterson, age 78 of State Hwy 197N Burnsville, NC passed away March 22, 2016 at his home. He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a son of the late Clayton and Lassie Barnett Peterson. He was retired as a Loader Operator at Unimin Corporation.
