GREEN MOUNTAIN -- Gail Griffith, 76, of the Tipton Hill community in Green Mountain, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Brian Center Health and Rehab in Spruce Pine.
Born Dec. 14, 1940, in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Frances Profitt Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister; Brenda Blanton and three brothers; Kenneth, Bill and Jim Bryant.
Mrs. Griffith was a lifelong member of the Lower Brummetts Creek Church of the Brethren, where she served as pianist and organist for 55 years. She was very dedicated to the service of her church.
She was retired from the Mitchell County School system with 33 years of service. Her two favorite past times were working in her flowers and playing Rook with her buddies.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 58 years, Scott Griffith; her son, Joe Griffith, and wife, Elaine; stepdaughter, Melanie Duncan, and husband, Russell; stepson, Nick Miller; her sisters, Maxine Robinson, of Gaffney, South Carolina, and Star Bennett, of Bakersville; her sisters-in-law, Dottie Bryant, of Bridgewater, Virginia, and Elaine Bryant, of Hanover, Pennsylvania; her brother-in-law, Alfred Blanton, of Bakersville; special niece, Beth Brewer; several nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Betty Garland.
A funeral service was 3 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Lower Brummetts Creek Church of the Brethren with the Rev. John Smith, Danny Silvers and Paul Bennett officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was 1 p.m. until time of service Monday at the church. Interment followed in Tipton-Griffith Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were David Bryant, Will Bryant, Nick Miller, Jeff Brewer, Jerry Griffith, Paul Bennett, Randy Griffith and Embert Barnett. Honorary pallbearers were Gene Herrell, Don Herrell, Roger Whitson, John Bradshaw, Dr. David Molton, the Rev. Phil Graeber, Mike Bryant and Larry Robinson.
The family would like to extend thanks to the staff, nurses and CNAs at the Brian Center for their wonderful care of Gail and their concern for the family.
