SPRUCE PINE -- Jack William Sullins, 88, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.
Jack was born April 15, 1928, in Spruce Pine to Lee Monroe and Annie Pitman Sullins. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Sullins.
Jack was a veteran of the United States Navy from 1945-1947, the owner of Spruce Pine Specialty Company and Sullins Wholesale, and was also employed by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Jack was a lifetime member of Pine Branch Baptist Church. He was a member of Vesper Masonic Lodge AF & AM for 52 years, where he had served as master, as well as a member of the Mountaineer Shrine Club. As a member of the Spruce Pine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star he served as Worthy Patron and District Deputy Grand Patron. Jack was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and loved Tar Heel basketball.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Joann Sullins; seven children, Ray Sullins and wife, Karon, of La Porte, Texas, Ken Sullins and wife, Peggy, of Monroe, Georgia, Warren Sullins, of Kemah, Texas, Richard Sullins and wife, Shirlyn, of Burnsville, Gerald Sullins and wife, Michelle, of Asheville, Beverly Acuff and husband, James, and Nan Sullins, of Spruce Pine; 27 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren.
The family received friends from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Pine Branch Baptist Church in Spruce Pine. A celebration of his life followed with the Rev. Bobby Joe Greene officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Branch Baptist Church, 48 Church Road, Spruce Pine, NC 28777 in his memory.
