The Western Highlands Middle School basketball tournament came to an end last week, providing plenty of excitement for the fans. The tournament was full of surprises as both the boys’ and girls’ champions were unexpected.

The Harris boys’ team, who were considered the overwhelming favorites, were stunned in the semifinals by an aggressive Cranberry team. The underdogs managed to pull off a 32-29 upset, sending the Harris boys home early. In the finals, Cranberry fell to Madison.

In the girls’ tournament, the Bowman girls advanced to the finals after defeating their local rival Harris. However, the team was unable to maintain their momentum, losing to the Cane River team in the final. Despite the loss, the Bowman girls deserve credit for their impressive push to the championship finals.

Overall, it was a great tournament, and all the local middle school teams should be proud of their performances. Congratulations to the tournament winners, Madison and Cane River, for their well-deserved victories.
