The Mitchell wrestling teams traveled to Madison County a day early for the 2026 Western Highlands Conference Championships and came away with multiple medals.
Senior Bryson McFalls picked up his second Western Highland Conference title to lead the men’s team. Several other Mountaineer men brought home medals including:
Brett McClean — second place
Erris Crone — third place
Jaysin Erwin — third place
Wyatt Benfield — fourth place
Tristan Phillips — third place
Daren Hise — third place
On the women’s side, the Lady Mountaineers dominated their competition, coming home with three conference champions and a runner-up.
Katie Stowe picked up her second conference title in as many tries and Payton Buchanan earned her third consecutive WHC title with a 7-0 win over Ella Thomas of Hendersonville. Sophie Robertson also earned her first title, while freshman Jayceemae Erwin finished second. Overall, the ladies finished third in the team standings.
The Mountaineers will await the pairings for the dual team state playoffs this week, and then look ahead to regional competitions in two weeks.
