The Mitchell Mountaineers continued their winning ways Saturday, securing a 71-32 victory over the Cloudland High School Highlanders.
Mitchell High School, now on a four-game win streak, outscored Cloudland in every quarter, maintaining a consistent dominance throughout the game.
Mitchell’s offensive power was on full display, as the team has now won seven games by at least 20 points this season. Its recent form has been exceptional, winning five of its last six games, and improving their record to 10-7. In those victories, the Mountaineers averaged 69.7 points per game.
For the Highlanders, the loss extended their losing streak to three games, dropping their record to 3-13.
This week, Mitchell hosted the Mountain Heritage Cougars at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain Heritage High School is also riding high, having humbled Avery County 77-46 in their last outing. The Cougars have been on a tear, winning eight of their last nine games, which boosted their record to 15-2.
The last encounter between Mitchell and Mountain Heritage in January saw the Cougars come out on top, 74-59. This upcoming match promises to be a clash of teams in top form, with one team’s winning streak at home or away set to end.
In Mitchell girls’ basketball, the Lady Mountaineers narrowly defeated the Cloudland Highlanders 46-45 in a tight game on Saturday. The victory marks Mitchell’s ninth consecutive win.
The Mountaineers have been particularly strong on the road, securing their fifth straight away victory, which has boosted their season record to 13-5. Their recent success can be attributed to a solid offensive output, averaging 55.0 points per game over these last five wins. For Cloudland, the loss is part of a recent skid, having dropped three of their last four games, affecting their season tally to an even 11-11.
Next up, the Lady Mountaineers hosted conference leader Mountain Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3, in another competitive matchup.
