The Mitchell High School baseball team is gearing up for their first conference matchup of the season, set to take on the Rosman Tigers on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
The game will be played at Rosman High School, with Mitchell entering the contest on a high note, boasting a three-game winning streak.
During this impressive run, the team made history by defeating McDowell High School this past week for the first time ever, securing a 10-6 victory. The squad has been showcasing their offensive prowess, averaging more than seven runs per game this season.
Mitchell’s most recent triumph came on Friday, as they bested Johnson County with a score of 8-4. Riley Silver proved to be a dual threat, delivering a standout performance both on the mound and at the plate.
Silver struck out ten batters over six innings, allowing only two earned runs and one unearned run on five hits - his highest strikeout total since March 2024. Silver also contributed offensively, going 1-for-4 with a triple - his first of the season - a stolen base, and two RBI.
The team’s bats were alive throughout the lineup, with A.J. Mackey leading the charge. Mackey went 2-for-3, crushing a home run, driving in two runs, and adding a double to his stat line. Jaxon Rohr also made his presence felt, crossing the plate twice while going 2-for-3.
Mitchell’s relentless attack resulted in 12 hits, keeping the Johnson County outfield on their toes. The performance marked the third straight game in which the Mountaineers have recorded at least nine hits.
On the other side of the diamond, Rosman will look to bounce back after a lopsided 15-2 defeat at the hands of Draughn on Friday. The loss extended the Tigers’ skid against the Wildcats to eight consecutive games.
The two teams last met in April of last year, with Mitchell winning by a score of 10-5. As they prepare to face off once more, both squads will aim to assert their dominance in this early-season conference clash.
If you’re unable to make this away game, the Mountaineers will be hosting Rosman for their first home game of the season this Friday at 4:30 p.m.
